The Voice of Reason in an Unreasonable world

after a bit of a break from my crusade, i've started writing my large response to Thompson. As an added bonus, as well, I've gone to Gabe and Tycho, the creators of Penny Arcade, with the following email:

Quote:

Hello, Gabe and Tycho,

Pardon me for not using your real name in this email, as while I would like to talk to you more formally, I would probably find it awkward to call you your real name, as I've been reading Penny Arcade for far too long.

That being said, I would like to ask you something about a certain lawyer man you have had dealings with in the past, who is sometimes referenced in your comics. The gaming community knows this man quite well, and have formed a rebellion against his idiocy. As expected, this lawyer man i refer to is a Mister Jack Thompson. He has been appearing in the news recently and I have made it my duty to piss Mr. Thompson off. Not give him more ammo for his smug little run in the news and such, but truly enrage him by disproving everything he stands for in one violent fell swoop.

It's going to be fun, I expect, if he doesn't go as far as to sue me for harassment for minor offenses against him (as he's known to do in the past).

As such, I've gathered up a small group of Rebels who have begun to write a large message to Mr. Thompson, showing their swirling emotions against him. at the moment, we're not very big, only around twenty people, but I'm trying to expand. Knowing the subject, it won't be hard to expand much more.

In any case, I have started to get well acquainted with Mr. Thompson and his actions through many different sources, such as news outlets online, and his many wikipedia articles. Most of the sources seem reliable, as well. I've started writing the letter, but before i did, i realized i was going to run out of steam eventually, or he would find a fatal flaw in my message that he would take and magnify time a thousand. I figured that this would be better off avoided, if i was going to have any credibility in the ensuing argument.

So, I've come to you, Penny Arcade, to ask about your past dealings with Mr.Thompson. I recall a few comics you featured him in, and who could forget the Charity incident that occurred a while back ,as well as his own slandering of you. While you might want to avoid dealing with him, I must ask a few things about your past dealings with Mr. Thomspon, in order to make my own case against him even more effective.

you may tell me my efforts will be futile, and i agree, they probably are. The guy has a history of being stubborn, and no one like me is going to change him. But maybe a group of people like me might make a dent in his thick skull. But again, most likely not.

Considering your previous dealings with Thompson, it's safe to assume you bested him sooner or later, but he refuse to call it a defeat, and, like always, put it off as all your fault and everything. I want to know what you know about Mr. Thompson, as much as you can tell me about him, so that my organization can use the weaknesses you may have exploited against him in our coup.

If you cannot help me, or I have just been barking up the wrong tree, please tell me so. If you will assist, your efforts are greatly appreciated. any form of reply would do, whether it is a one word message of 'no' or a page long news response. No matter the reply, though, I remain a fan of Penny Arcade and your work. Not like one member would make much of a difference to your hit counter, but anyway.

As I said, any manner of response is appreciated. As a wise man once told me, "even though our efforts may go futile, it never hurts to try.

... Unless he sues us. "

Best of luck in all of your future endeavors, and heres a salute to you for actually reading this big old rant i made.

perhaps this may get us some headway.

:P You're an idealist, you know that? Then again, perhaps, if we gain PA's support, we can try to contact others, such as VG Cats, F4nboy$, IGM, Heck, maybe Take-Two.

Idealist, huh? xP Lloyd from Tale of Symphonia was an idealist, and he turned out alright~

let's start with one group supporting the cause, then move on to actual companies later, eh, PM?

well then, it's possible. PA has had direct dealings with Thompson, though, with their 10,000 dollar charity money he refused to give and all. I figure they were a good place to start.

That guy who hasn't changed his avatart...

If he tried to sue us, wouldn't that just prove that he won't listin to anyone who speaks out against his "mission?" I mean, if he sue's us, a bunch of people that are part of an online RPG based off of a kids game and anime, were some of use aren't even 18 years old, I really don't think that any news network would make it sound good for him.

Organization sounds better, and the definition is just...

Quote:

An organization or organisation (read more about -ize vs -ise) is a social arrangement which pursues collective goals, which controls its own performance, and which has a boundary separating it from its environment.

so in theory, we ARE an organization. o.o kind of.

@dark heart- Exactly why his suing us would almost be like icing on a cake. he cant do it, without himself falling into a worse situation.

Dear Mr. Thompson-

I regret to tell you that I must agree with most of your standards, I've researched for quite a bit and found that in the Bible it says not to bring your brothers to court. Some avid videogame players are Christians as well (if you really are). I find it highly stupideous if one person tries to change the a world he doesn't even live in- B.Woo

Short, sweet, and crippling.

It does? I could've sworn it said not to tell untruths about your brother in court... By that logic murders and rapists should get off scot free...

Bored of life. Or life got bored of me. Meh.

Dear Mr. Thompson,

I was born a video gamer, I grew up a video gamer, I still am a 13 year old video gamer. Say what you will about me, being obsessed, a good for nothing or whatever you may have to say about me, however, I must address your issues on your extreme dislike of videogames. As you must know, several crimes have been committed by underage people. Not only that, the crimes usually involve drinking, driving, even murderer. The criminals have a tendency to blame videogames, am I correct? Please correct me if I am sir, but I believe that is just a quick excuse that they make up rather than "For fun" or "Because I felt like it." You most likely do not believe in what I am currently saying, that is expected, however please think about the following. All official videogames have ratings for age groups, not only that, movies and TV shows as well. It is not only the player and the viewer, but the player and the viewers GUARDIAN's responsibility to make sure that they follow the appropriate age groups, therefor it's not only the criminal's fault if they blame videogames, but the guardian's as well for allowing them to purchase the videogames. Not only that, say for example, a child walks into a local videogame store and purchases a rated "M" game. Should that child have been able to purchase that game if he or she was under 18 years old? No, so it is not only the child's fault, but the shop's fault that this happened. I ask that you take this into consideration the next time you believe Videogames are at fault for crimes. I also ask you of this, please take into consideration of the people you threaten to sue. According to the American Bill of Rights, Amendment one, Freedom of speech is perfectly legal, allowing our fellow citizens to state what they will about their opinions of you, so long as they do not threaten, or use extreme obscenity against you. Therefor there would be no reason at all to threaten those who wrote perfectly reasonable letters, emails and such. I thank you greatly for taking the time to read this and I would like nothing more than to thank you for taking what I have said into consideration.
